Ava DuVernay, Colman Domingo, and Sheryl Lee Ralph will be presenting at the Truth Awards.
The Truth Awards, presented by Better Brothers Los Angeles (BBLA) and The Diva Foundation, celebrate accomplishments within the Black LGBTQ+ community. This event is scheduled for March 15th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The recipients include Lee Daniels, set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, along with AAFCA founder Gil Robertson, who will be bestowed the Media & Arts Award. Actress Wendy Raquel Robinson is slated for the Ally Award, whereas Dr. Kimberly Smith will be honored with the History Maker Award. Furthermore, Dr. Leo Moore is scheduled to get the Bayard Rustin Advocacy Award, and Larry Sims will be acknowledged with the Business Leadership Award. Brittani Nichols will collect the Breakout Star Award, while Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald will jointly receive the Andre Leon Talley Style Purveyor Award.
Ralph, who stars in " Abbott Elementary" and founded the Diva Foundation, stated, “Education is a precious gem, an agent of change; lacking it significantly narrows our opportunities.” She further commented, “Being seen alters realities; it dismantles old narratives and crafts fresh stories where compassion triumphs over dread.” Ralph also mentioned, “This event acts like a reflection showing us reality and a portal revealing future prospects.”
Hip-hop artist and YouTube sensation NLE Choppa is scheduled to deliver his inaugural performance at the ceremony. According to V. Scott Hamilton, co-founder of BBLA, "Real advancement demands each one of us embrace unease and come out more resilient." He further emphasized that having supporters such as NLE Choppa indicates that our narratives have reach extending past limitations.
Lisa Ann Walters from "Abbott Elementary," Tamar Braxton from "The Braxtons," Hosea Chanchez from "The Game," Cynthia Bailey from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," Terrell Carter from "Beauty in Black," Candiace Dillard Bassett from "The Real Housewives of Potomac," Dyllon Burnside from "The Dwen Curry Story," Hailie Sahar from "Pose," Kareem Grimes from "All American," and others are scheduled to be presenters.
Central to BBLA's mission is supporting future generations via educational scholarships, which range from $3,000 to $5,000 and are presented at this prestigious gathering—upholding its tradition since its launch by granting more than $300,000 in financial aid for education so far.
As we channel both our resources and trust into those building a better future, the journey toward transformation evolves," declared Vincent Holmes, co-founder of BBLA, with great passion while elaborating on the group’s continuing efforts to create impactful programs. These endeavors seek to foster more promising tomorrows globally via educational advancement routes successfully set up annually through these scholarships.
Nicco Annan from "P-Valley" and Ts Madison will be hosting the award ceremony.
